The Northern Finland Student Housing Foundation PSOAS and the technology company Digita have signed a contract for the use of PSOAS properties to house mobile network base stations. PSOAS owns around 100 buildings in and around Oulu, including 4,000 apartments for local students.

With streaming services becoming increasingly popular and more and more people working from home, fast and reliable internet access has become a prerequisite for modern living. The need for digital infrastructure is also growing as reliance on mobile networks increases. PSOAS properties are ideally placed to complement this vital infrastructure.

“What we are particularly looking for from this partnership is the ability to give our residents first-class mobile service while using our rental income to keep our rents affordable”, explains Service Manager Jari Simonen from PSOAS. “It is important for us to be able to outsource the operative aspects of mobile access to a reliable partner who can ensure the safety of our properties and residents and leave us free to focus on serving our customers”, Simonen adds.

“We are excited about the prospect of working with PSOAS. Our plan is to start providing properties for both mobile network operators and other mobile infrastructure developers in the Oulu area. PSOAS has properties both in the centre of Oulu and on the outskirts of the city. We will be taking care of not just telecoms leasing but also contract management on behalf of PSOAS. This will allow our customer to focus on their core business”, says Digita’s COO Markus Ala-Hautala.

In addition to base station management, Digita’s real estate solutions include internal coverage services and IoT services designed for properties, such as condition monitoring and remote reading of water meters.

PSOAS’s mission is to provide housing for young people pursuing post-secondary education in Oulu and to promote international student, youth and researcher exchange. We do this by keeping our rents as low as possible without compromising the financial soundness of the foundation.
