Digita will update its
TV prices as of 27 July 2015. Total price reduction in 2015 will be up to 12% depending
on the multiplex, including the price reduction implemented at the beginning of
the year. Prices have been lowered following the new regulation by the Finnish
Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) in favour of our customers recognising changes in the
market and increased competition. Digita is also keeping future price
adjustments well below inflation.

In total, the prices of TV services have decreased by up to 20% in
real terms from 2009. Despite this, Digita has invested c. €100 million in its networks and technology
since full privatisation in 2005. Furthermore, Digita plans to invest c. €40
million in TV service development over the next 10 years.

Digita has led the promotion of High Definition (HD) TV
broadcasting in Finland. Digita’s HDTV pricing follows ramp up pricing which means
that there are no DVB-T2 service fees during the year 2015. This allows both
content providers and viewers the transition to this exciting new quality
broadcast.

The increased regulation makes operating in the current market situation
more difficult

“In our opinion, the
market analysis as part of the SMP review carried out by FICORA in the spring
did not review the Finnish TV and radio market objectively enough. For example,
the increasing international competition was not taken into account in any way.
Consequential to the market analysis, their decision criticized us for having a
monopoly on TV distribution and has subjected us to considerable ex ante
regulation”, says Juha-Pekka  Weckström, CEO of Digita.

Digita’s pricing has been regulated since 2002. The pricing has always been
considered appropriate and cost-oriented by both FICORA and the Finnish
Competition and Consumer Authority as well as the Supreme Administrative Court.
The European Commission as well as the Transport and Communications Committee
of the Finnish Parliament have been in favour of reducing regulation when
preparing the Information Society Code. “However, due to the market and competition conditions we have decided to continue to
lower the prices. We are doing this to
support the field of TV and radio that is undergoing an upheaval”, says Weckström.

The competition that our customers face in the TV and radio market has
increased considerably as a result of new actors and distribution methods. Consumers
watch video content increasingly from portable devices through fast broadband
and mobile networks. The changing consumer
habits, also in sparsely populated areas, will affect the development of the
market also in the future. Television is being
watched, in addition to the antenna network, through satellite, cable,
broadband and mobile networks, and investments in
different networks will increase the competition further.

Digita has applied for
a continuation of all of its TV licences, and wishes to continue promoting the
interests of Finnish media houses and consumers, as well as developing new TV services
in cooperation with its customers.
