The Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation and Digita have signed an agreement to utilise LOAS’s buildings as mobile network base station sites. LOAS has 90 apartment buildings in the Lappeenranta area, which are home to approximately 3,200 students from 86 different countries.

When it comes to housing, well-functioning data connections are nowadays a basic necessity. With the growth in remote work and the increasing use of digital services, the requirements for telecommunications infrastructure are increasing. In densely built urban environments, base stations are often located in buildings and on the roofs of buildings.

“For us, the main reason for cooperating with Digita is to ensure the best possible data connections for our students. At the same time, it is important for us to enable the surrounding society to utilise digital infrastructure. At LOAS, we have already invested in our own optical fibre network, but we also want to offer our residents the benefits and opportunities offered by new mobile technology,” says Joonas Grönlund, Executive Director at LOAS. “Forus, Digita is a good and competent partner for the management of base stations,” Grönlund continues.

“We are extremely pleased with the cooperation we are launching with LOAS. In the future, we will also be able to provide digital infrastructure in the Lappeenranta area for mobile operators and other parties building telecommunications networks. We ensure the safe use of buildings and provide LOAS with the possibility to concentrate on their own core task,” says Digita’s COO Markus Ala-Hautala.

In addition to base station management, Digita’s real estate solutions include internal coverage services and IoT services designed for properties, such as condition monitoring and remote reading of water meters.
