Varpaisjärven Maansiirto ja Vesitekniikka Oy (VMSV) provides end-to- end earth construction, hydraulic engineering and water supply construction services. VMSV developed the Petari.fi IoT service to be able to better serve its customers. Thanks to the Petari.fi service, VMSV is able to provide its customers with construction and maintenance services, analyse the condition of the water supply network and suggest further measures. VMSV is able to obtain up-to-date measurement data and the resulting analytics by placing remote-readable IoT sensors in operationally critical locations. For the transfer of data, VMSV utilises Digita’s nationwide LoRaWAN network.

“Our background is in excavation and water supply. To begin with, we started to build an IoT service to solve some of the development challenges facing our industry. In practice, though, our Petari.fi service can be applied to all companies interested in obtaining up-to-date analytics regarding the critical areas of their operations. I’ve said before that Petari.fi was born out of our love for analytics,” says Ari Huusko, CEO, Varpaisjärven Maansiirto ja Vesitekniikka Oy. The service is implemented in collaboration with Invenco Oy, and the tool used for analyses is the PowerBI tool included in the Microsoft Office 365 suite.

“With the Petari.fi service we provide companies with the opportunity to monitor, for instance, the locations of objects, production utilisation rates, the use of facilities, liquid levels, indoor and outdoor air quality, pressure differences, the opening of doors and the movements of objects, such as vibration. It is also possible to add call buttons to the service. The service can be connected to existing sensors via separate connection devices,” explains Huusko.

“The development and digitalisation of water supply management is in the mutual interest of Digita and Varpaisjärven Maansiirto ja Vesitekniikka Oy. I think it’s great that an interest in analytics has led to the development of the Petari.fi IoT service and that our LoRaWAN technology was chosen as the service’s data transfer tool,” says Mika Flinck, Head of Sales, IoT  ervices, Digita.

“It’s nice to see how the disruption caused by digitalisation can provide traditional industries and old companies with new business opportunities as well as the incentive to develop their operations. For us at Digita, mapping the opportunities offered by IoT and helping our customers to
utilise them in their business operations is pretty much the norm –  naturally, in collaboration with our customers. We also provide turnkey services from sensors to analytics and data visualisation. Of course, we take advantage of our own partner and customer network in this,” says Flinck.

Petari.fi is a comprehensive IoT service available to all companies, regardless of their size, sector or sensor requirements. The service can be used on a computer or a mobile device. For analyses, the system uses the PowerBI tool included in the Microsoft Office 365 suite. The tool makes it possible to visualise and combinedata from several different sources, such as information systems, files, the Intranet or different open-source services. This way, companies can easily integrate IoT analytics as part of other reporting and the data required for management can be analysed in one location. The service was developed in collaboration with Invenco Oy.

Invenco Oy is an expert organisation specialising in corporate performance management, data storage and reporting.
