Tuusulan Vesi and Digita have concluded an agreement on the digitalisation of remote water meter reading with the help of Digita’s IoT network, which is based on the LoRaWAN technology. The first water meters to be included in the remote water meter reading network will be deployed in the Housing Fair Finland neighbourhood of Tuusula in August 2020.

In Tuusula, the digitalisation of water supply services and the positive experiences of other water companies in remote water meter reading have been closely monitored for several years. With Tuusula hosting the Housing Fair Finland 2020, Tuusulan Vesi decided that now is the time to update their water meter base. The decision to adopt remote water meter reading was also supported by Digita’s LoRaWAN network, which ensures that water supply digitisation can be done reliably thanks to the excellent coverage and secure connections of the network. The water meter network of Tuusulan Vesi covers about 8400 water meters, which will be updated to remote water meters over the next few years.

“With this project, we are bringing our services up to date by following the example set by energy companies. With the digitalisation of water supply services, our goal is to gain the overall benefit of having your entire water supply and sewerage network covered by remote water meters. For our customers, the advantage of the new system is that we will no longer send them bills based on estimates, and they will also be able to monitor their water consumption in real time”, Jukka Sahlakari, Director of Tuusulan Vesi, explains.

“This was an excellent time to start working with Tuusulan Vesi. Installing remote water meters in buildings in the Housing Fair area was the first phase of this project, and it has given us an excellent stepping stone to move forward”, Mona Miettinen, Digita’s IoT services Sales Manager, says.
