Arrow and Digita’s StartUp Challenge culminated on Thursday the 23rd of May 2019 at the Arrow Summit when the winning solution was chosen and awarded. The goal of the competition was to encourage startups to launch and develop their own IoT businesses. The winner of the competition, Mato Engineering, has developed a service for professional builders called MATOlog Cure, which improves the concrete casting process used at construction sites by means of real-time measurement and strength measurement. The system comprises measurement sensors, wireless data transfer and cloud analytics.

”We are delighted with the overall level of the competitors’ solutions. We evaluate solutions from three aspects: relevance, business potential and the solution’s usability and ease of use. Mato Engineering’s solution was the one that corresponded best with all three aspects,” explains jury member Kaisa Mustola, Marketing Director, Arrow.

“MATOlog Cure is used for three key purposes: to monitor how the concrete hardens during the early stages of the cast, to monitor how the concrete dries and to monitor the level of structural moisture during use. In addition to the sensor, MATOlog Cure comprises a cloud-based online service, where a maturity model assesses the strength development of concrete,” says Marko Oikarinen, CEO, Mato Engineering. “MATOlog Cure is well-suited to monitoring bridges, concrete buildings, floor castings and foundations,” continues Oikarinen. MATOlog Cure reports the measurement results fully independently via Digita’s IoT data network. It does not require external devices, such as WiFi routers, transformers or SIM cards, or even an external power source.
