Technopolis, an expert in shared workspaces providing flexible and efficient offices and related services, has signed an agreement on cooperation with Digita to facilitate and enable mobile connections to buildings managed by Technopolis. The agreement was signed in the autumn and operational work has been in progress for a few months now.

“We have started the implementation of the management model for base station sites in the areas. This has taken off well since our partner has the modes of operation in place. Digita has carried out surveys at our properties to map the current situation. We have also directed all operator contacts to Digita, in order to familiarize operators with the practice and speed up the coordination of installation work,” says Minna Kemppainen, Concept Manager at Technopolis.

“The importance of digital infrastructure is emphasised as the requirements for housing comfort and functioning data connections increase. Ensuring the quality and capacity of mobile network connections requires a comprehensive base station network. In a densely built urban environment, base stations are often located in buildings and on the roofs,” says Markus Ala-Hautala, Chief Operating Officer at Digita.

“Through the cooperation, we will have uniform practices for Technopolis’ Finnish properties, and a competent partner to manage the base station locations from the perspective of both the property and the contracts. Above all, it is important that the partner is able to support us, for example, with regard to the appropriate installation and modification of the property. The up-to-dateness of contracts and documentation is also important to us, so that we know what has been installed in different properties over time and what the current state of installations is,” says Kemppainen.

The buildings managed by Technopolis are located in Oulu, Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Tampere, among others. Digita will provide its expertise and support through the base station management service.

“Through cooperation, we can get contracts and documentation in order, so we believe that this will significantly simplify the management of base station locations in the future and help to allocate the related costs correctly,” says Kemppainen.

With the cooperation between Digita and Technopolis and the base stations to be installed, mobile connections will improve. 5G’s potential is also easier to realise.
