Ranuan Infra Oy and Digita Oy concluded an agreement on the digitalisation of Ranua’s water and district heating services with the help of Digita’s IoT network built on top of LoRaWAN technology. Digita was selected through a public tendering process organised by Ranuan Infra in spring 2019.

Ranuan Infra is responsible for water supply and the generation and distribution of heat energy in the Ranua area. The current objective is to digitalise the meters of both the water and district heating network.

“When the current meters reached the end of their life, it was clear to us that we should deploy digital remote reading in both water and district heating services. At a small additional cost, we aim to not only improve customer service but also the efficiency of our operations. We also want to increase water safety, as we will be able to react to any deviations in water consumption immediately,” says Veli Saarijärvi, Managing Director of Ranuan Infra.

“Digita’s tender was the best we received, and they enable full remote-readability. The installation of digital meters will be completed by the end of this year,” says Saarijärvi.

Digita is a stable domestic operator that offers a complete infrastructure for the Internet of Things (IoT) as a service platform for its partners’ solutions. Digita’s network is based on its own tall radio and television masts. The objective in 2019 is to extend the network so that is has 600 base stations and several hundreds of picocell base stations, and to expand the network in accordance with customer needs.
