Napapiirin Energia ja Vesi and Digita have concluded an agreement on the digitalisation of water supply with the help of Digita’s IoT network, which is based on LoRaWAN technology. There are also plans to implement a remote reading pilot for district heating and electricity together with Digita.

With the agreement, the area’s water meter base will be renewed by 2030. The reform will benefit customers with invoicing based on estimates becoming a thing of the past and as property-specific alerts can also be offered to customers in the future.

The benefits of remote readability also include obtaining up-to-date information on the entire water supply network, allowing the development of water balance and water supply network management. “Digita’s IoT network now enables even better visibility into the water supply network and water consumption data, with the aim of developing a long-term partnership that will ensure reliable data transfer of our various services in the future as well”, says Joni Hemmilä, Network Director at Napapiirin Energia and Vesi Oy.

The area’s water supply network is extensive, and a reliable operator has been sought for the digitalisation of remote water reading due to the coverage challenges in the area. “We started our cooperation with Digita with a pilot phase, and the LoRaWAN network proved to be a reliable option for our needs. With Digita’s IoT network, we are able to promote real-time measurement of our services, which is an important strategic goal for us”, Hemmilä adds.

“In addition to the digitalisation of water supply, our IoT network enables the digital data transfer of other services as well. The aim is to also bring the other services of Napapiirin Energia and Vesi within the scope of real-time measurement using our network”, adds Mona Miettinen, Sales Manager for Digita’s IoT services.
