Limingan Vesihuolto Oy and Digita Oy have signed a 10-year contract regarding remote water-metre reading and the digitalisation of the water infrastructure. Following a six-month pilot period, Limingan Vesihuolto decided to take water management to a new era at full tilt.

“No water company can afford to stay behind digitalisation,” says Katja Arvola, CEO. “All operators face challenges regarding the sufficiency of employee resources. The remote reading of water meters frees resources to tasks that are more important for business, such as service development. Remote reading also reduces errors, makes invoicing clearer and enables a steady stream of income thanks to monthly invoicing,” says Arvola, summing up the benefits of remote reading. “Most importantly, our customers are happy because they are paying for water based on usage,” adds Arvola.

“I would encourage companies to develop their operations. The digitalisation of water management is not a cost issue. It is a question of a change of attitude and questioning the current operating models,” says Arvola. “The digitalisation operating model is already in place, and all of the operators involved in the project, Digita, Onninen, Suomen Vesitieto and Kalibro, share a mutual will to develop. Furthermore, each operator in its own role has helped us forward,” concludes Arvola.

“Digita was genuinely interested in our company, and in addition to their IoT expertise, they have a customer-oriented desire to develop,” adds Arvola. “We will digitalise Liminka’s water management network customer interface. In six years, we will have replaced all of our old meters.”

“We’ve had the pleasure to work together with Limingan Vesihuolto, and we are extremely happy to be given the opportunity to continue the development of operations with our innovative customer,” says Mona Miettinen, Sales Manager, Digita. “We have created an ecosystem for the sector, which enables our customers to quickly launch a pilot. In addition to Digita’s IoT network, the ecosystem includes importers and distributors of smart water meters as well as system suppliers who make it possible to  tore consumer data in systems and implement invoicing on the basis of the data,” explains Mona Miettinen.
