Digita and Liedon Vesi concluded a ten-year agreement on the provision of IoT services in relation to the remote reading of water meters. Digita was selected as the partner as it was the only company offering a cost-effective and feasible solution for the use of a water supply plant.

“We have
actively followed the development of IoT for a few years and interviewed water
meter suppliers as our intention has been to deploy remote reading of water
meters. I was convinced of the cost-effectiveness of data transfer and the
network coverage of the IoT network built on top of Digita’s LoRaWAN
technology. In addition, the option to extend the network to cover other IoT
applications as well was a key selection criterion,” says Aki Teini, Water Services Manager at Liedon Vesi. Liedon Vesi,
together with the municipality of Lieto, is planning to use the network for
other IoT purposes as well.

“The remote
reading of water meters benefits our customers as well as us. We get
transparency and accuracy regarding water consumption, and the traditional
reading of meters will be automated. In the future, our customers can have
monthly invoicing instead of three invoices per year, for instance. It’ll be
easy to monitor and predict your own personal water consumption,” says Teini.
“In addition, the alert features of the service are also very important, as
they enable us to react quickly to any deviations and repair requirements,”
Teini continues.

“It’s great that
starting cooperation with the innovative Liedon Vesi was so quick and
uncomplicated. The objective is to replace all the 6,000 water meters in the
Lieto area with new, remote-readable smart meters. Our rapid network building
also helped convince the customer that Digita is a reliable partner. Our
nationwide expert organisation plays a key role in the network expansion,” says
Mona Miettinen, Sales Manager, IoT
Services at Digita.
