Digita will offer HD-level terrestrial television network pay-TV services in its UHF network from the beginning of 2020. Digita is set to provide viewers of the terrestrial television network with at least as diverse content and better quality than so far. Digita will also extend the coverage area of pay-TV services from the current 85% population coverage to 90%. TV viewers do not need to make additional purchases or changes to their antennas to receive pay-TV services.

‘We will offer TV viewers and content providers a more flexible and modern pay-TV environment with wider coverage and better quality than before. In addition to rich channel content, we will offer viewers hybrid-TV services with programme libraries and separately ordered channels and programmes,’ says Pekka Mattila, VP, Broadcasting.

‘With pay-TV services, the HD supply of Digita’s terrestrial television network will also grow. Right from the start, we will offer both high-definition and standard-quality pay-TV content. For content providers, we will also offer new commercial models. The idea is that domestic and foreign OTT operators could provide their services directly to terrestrial television households. In addition, we provide the opportunity for event television and pop-up channels that diversify the business models of paid television services,’ says Mattila.

Existing pay-TV customers in the terrestrial television network will not be affected by the change. TV viewers do not need to make additional purchases or changes to their antennas to receive pay-TV services. After the change, HD pay-TV channels will be available to a much wider range of antenna households. Digita’s pay-TV services will also be sold in DNA’s sales network for the time being. Digita will inform pay-TV customers in the terrestrial network in more detail about services, network expansion and upcoming reforms later in November.
