Digita’s service operations centre, SOC, is located in Pasila, Helsinki. The SOC provides professional monitoring services for different systems and communications networks. Employees of the SOC are skilled professionals working in five different units.

Pasi Hirsimäki, Technical Service Advisor atDigita Info, has worked at Digita throughout the company’s history since the 1990s. “I assist customers with TV and radio broadcasts and error reports,” says Hirsimäki. Heini Huotari, Hirsimäki’s colleague at Digita Info, adds: “Our most important task is to help our customers with TV visibility and ensure that they get expert assistance and guidance”.

Employee longevity at Digita is high – like Hirsimäki, Hannu Heikonen has worked at Digita since its founding. “The tasks of SOC Maintenance include hardware installations and maintenance, infrastructure maintenance and on-call technical support,” lists Heikonen, who works as the team leader of the SOC Maintenance unit. “We make sure that video, audio and data reach everyone in Finland, no matter the conditions. At SOC Maintenance, we work towards this service promise every day of the year,” says Risto Kilpinen, Network Specialist at SOC Maintenance.

“In 24/7 Monitoring and Operations, the most important thing is the ability to respond and prioritise,” says Network Supervisor Matti Haapa-Aho, who has been with Digita for over two years. “Ensuring the operation of services 24/7, every day of the year is our most important duty,” says Operator Marko Mähönen, who joined Digital in 2002. Jani Lakkala also works in the 24/7 Monitoring and Operations unit.

The duties of Senior System Analyst Ari-Pekka Kumpulainen at the Monitoring Systems unit includes system development, architecture design, and planning the monitoring of various systems and their implementation in Digita’s monitoring systems. “Our task is to produce the most suitable monitoring solutions for Digita, from the monitoring of individual devices to large service entities to ensure that their operation and maintenance is as easy and cost-effective as possible throughout the life cycle. There’s always someone present and on top of things at the SOC,” says Kumpulainen, who joined the company in 1990. “Our most important tasks are the timely detection of incidents and preventing errors whenever possible,” says Marko Sandholm, who works in the same unit.

According to Levent Kartal, who works in the System Administration unit, the unit’s most important task is to correct system failures, prepare and implement changes and participate in development projects. Ale Juvonen, who started out at Digita Info and switched units last year, says that monitoring and operations are among the unit’s most important tasks. “The responsibilities of system administrators have expanded from TV to new radio systems. The most important task is to ensure the continuity of services,” says Mikko Savolainen, who joined Digita as a technical intern back in 2007.
