Broadcast Business is Booming

Spring has been busy for both our radio and TV businesses. On the radio side, a new national radio station, POPfm, has started broadcasting. Its coverage area is 98 percent of Finns. The station is owned by the Swedish company Mad Men Media, which has invested heavily in the sound quality of the station.

“It’s great that the Finnish commercial radio market is strengthening further. A large team at Digita has done excellent work with determination related to the launch of the new station,” says Tom Jungell, SVP, Broadcast Business.

In honor of summer, Mökkiradio has expanded its operations to Mikkeli for the summer. Mökkiradio is heard year-round in Turku, Padasjoki, Sysmä, Varkaus, and Savonlinna. During the summer, numerous short-term radio services such as Kesäseuraradio, Vaskiradio, and Tonecofm will also be implemented.

The TV channel offering has also been supplemented with the launch of VeikkausTV-19 on the antenna TV network on June 7, 2025. The channel broadcasts horse racing programs on Wednesdays starting at 5:45 PM and on Saturdays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM until the end of August.

In the TV business, we are approaching the final phase of the HD transition. The TV HD transition will be completed on June 30, 2025, when the standard-definition TV channels of commercial TV channels will be removed from antenna TV distribution.

“We will carry out the modification work on Monday, June 30. At that time, we will cut off the standard-definition broadcasts at 8 AM. Once we have completed the modification work, antenna TV households will need to perform a channel search if necessary to get the channels visible,” says Jungell. After the modification work, watching TV will require an HD-compatible TV or set-top box.
