[Helsinki] 17, February 2023 – Digita and MTV have signed an agreement on the MTV3 HD channel’s expansion to nationwide availability as part of the new HD transition. Since 2020, MTV3 HD has had 90 per cent national coverage and, starting 17 February, that coverage is expanding to 99.96 per cent. In addition, Antenna TV also covers almost 100 per cent of Finland’s secondary residences. The Hybrid TV services available on the MTV3 channel, such as the voting feature implemented for the sketch comedy show Putous, are naturally also available on MTV3 HD. MTV3 HD is on channel 23 on Antenna TV.

“The terrestrial television network is important to MTV, which is why we have been broadcasting MTV3 in high definition since 2020. Now we are expanding the availability of the channel to cover the whole country, giving all Finnish audiences access to MTV3 in excellent quality”, says MTV’s CTO Risto Koivula.

“Nationwide availability of MTV3 HD is a great thing for TV audiences. In addition to Yle, Antenna TV’s HD transition now includes the country’s two largest commercial TV channels. The TV sector is currently in the process of determining a more detailed timeframe for the HD transition, but it will likely take place in 2024 and 2025”, says Digita’s Television Services Vice President Teppo Ahonen.

Antenna TV offers audiences more than 20 free television channels. It is important to secure the continuity and level of service of the terrestrial television network in Finland. The ongoing HD and smart TV transitions enhance the competitiveness of Antenna TV, improve frequency usage and save energy. In addition, the HD transition gives households a wider selection of high-quality TV broadcasts to choose from.

To view HD broadcasts, audiences need a DVB-T2 receiver

To watch channels broadcast in high definition, you need an Antenna Ready HD receiver or a receiver equipped with a DVB-T2 tuner. You can view a list of Antenna-Ready-HD-tested devices at www.testatutlaitteet.fi (in Finnish).

Most receivers automatically search for new channels, but some televisions or set-top boxes may require retuning or a reset to factory presets. Instructions on how to search for new channels can be found on Digita’s website and in your device’s user manual. Digita Info is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at +358 (0)20 411 7676 or info@digita.fi.
