Digita’s LoRaWAN network that covers the whole of Finland uses LoRa (Long Range) technology, which is the first technology in the world that was developed specifically for the Internet of Things, and it is already used as a global telecommunications standard.

IoT solutions based on LoRaWAN are affordable, long-lasting and practically maintenance-free: sensors are lightweight and easy to install, with batteries lasting for up to ten years.

For US, IoT sensor technology is not merely a beautiful future vision but everyday life: all sensors and other equipment can be delivered from our warehouse already today.

LoRaWAN provides many possibilities for the monitoring of indoor areas

Monitoring indoor air quality in both public premises and homes is a topical issue. In particular, the indoor air of many schools and day care centres and its effect on health have been discussed a lot, with many corrective actions taken. Overall, sick leaves due to allergies and asthma are a great burden to the national economy – reducing such absences could potentially result in savings totalling billions of euros. Indoor environments are estimated to be linked to approximately 75% of the predisposition to allergies and asthma, so they have a pivotal effect.

In addition, the high quality of indoor air is important in terms of comfort and housing economy. Therefore, Digita aims to provide property developers and rental housing companies with possibilities to develop new services in order to further increase the comfort of living and energy efficiency.

With modern LoRaWAN networks, it is possible to collect high-quality and diverse data on living and working environments, based on which actions can be taken to ensure the high quality of indoor air.

Applications include, for example:

  • Measuring temperature and humidity
  • Carbon dioxide levels of indoor air
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Air pressure differences inside and outside a building
  • The effect of outdoor conditions to indoor air
