We are building a standardized, modular data center platform that can be deployed quickly across multiple sites.

We are looking for an experienced Head of Design.

The Head of Design owns the technical definition of that platform: the reference architecture, the design governance that keeps deployments consistent, and the design-to-delivery handoff to procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning.  This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of engineering, product management, and delivery. You will turn a one-off design culture into a standardized product culture, where each project makes the platform better and cheaper rather than starting from scratch.

Key Responsibilities

Platform architecture and product strategy

  • Define and own the standard reference design across electrical, mechanical, controls, fire protection, structural, security, and network infrastructure
  • Develop a modular product family with clearly defined interfaces, variants, and configuration rules
  • Set the roadmap for density evolution, including air to liquid cooling, higher-voltage distribution, and AI/GPU-ready configurations
  • Balance standardization against site-specific flexibility, with a disciplined process for approving deviations

Design governance and quality

  • Establish design standards, a design basis, a release and revision control process, and a formal change management gate for platform changes
  • Ensure designs meet applicable resilience targets, codes, and local regulatory requirements
  • Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability and maintainability reviews
  • Own the digital design environment, including BIM, parametric or configurator tooling, and a single source of truth for the bill of materials

Design-to-delivery integration

  • Work with procurement and supply chain on long-lead equipment strategy, framework agreements, and second sourcing for critical components
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners on design for manufacture and assembly, factory quality plans, and factory acceptance testing
  • Define transport, rigging, installation, and site-integration methods that optimize on-site labor and minimize schedule risk
  • Partner with the commissioning team to embed commissioning requirements, test points, and integrated systems test procedures into the design from the start

Cost, schedule, and performance

  • Own design-driven cost target and drive continuous cost-out through value engineering and learning from each deployment
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Support sales

Operations feedback loop

  • Capture lessons learned from commissioning, operations, and maintenance to feed platform improvements
  • Ensure designs support safe, efficient operations, including maintainability, spares strategy, and monitoring integration (BMS, EPMS, DCIM)

Leadership

  • Lead a multidisciplinary design team, including internal and external engineering partners
  • Represent the company’s technical capability to customers, partners, regulators, and investors

To succeed in this role, you bring

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial or data center design and delivery, including senior technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven experience with modular, prefabricated, or standardized infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of data center electrical and mechanical systems, resilience requirements, and commissioning processes.
  • Experience in design governance, configuration management, and change control.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management
  • Fluency in English and Finnish.

Additional advantages include

  • Experience with liquid cooling technologies and AI/HPC environments.
  • Knowledge of BIM, parametric design, and digital twin technologies.
  • Background in manufacturing, product development, or modular construction.
  • This is a unique Professional Engineering qualification or an advanced degree in a relevant field.
